A week of Change.... but Change is good!!!

Howdy Partner!                                                                                        March 24, 2014

Well I really don't know what to tell you about this week. We got Sister Evans to play dodgeball with us...we had moves....we had zone conference...ERLEND PASSED THE SACRAMENT, AND FOR THE FIRST TIME WORE A TIE TO CHURCH...My life is basically just good!

It was rough saying goodbye to Nance on Wednesday...even knowing I would see her again on Friday. But still. Then I chilled with Elder and Sister Haugen (the ektepar) for several hours while waiting for Sister Thurgood to get here. .

Then Sister Thurgood came and the party began! It always fun adjusting and changing, but the thing that helped the most was that we were in the same MTC group so we already knew each other pretty well. I am so lucky to be able to serve with Thurgood. She's super chill, and an awesome missionary, and friend!
My new companion Sister Thurgood and me!

So we had zone conference, that is always fun! It's fun to be able to see the whole zone! I miss these people!! They're awesome! We had some really strong spiritual moments and that was wonderful, as always! Then after, Sister Evans came to a middag with us, and was with us all day on Saturday too! She came and played sport with us! That was fun, we played volleyball and dodgeball! It was awesome, as always, and then she took us out to lunch!
GIRLS ROCK

Really not much happened this week! Just kind of trying to transition and get ready for this coming week! :)

We are both really excited for this week and the adventures to come! Guess what! It finally paused  in the downpour for a little bit! And it's beautiful and sunny!!! We are going to be spending as much time as possible outside today!!! As well as chillin' with the Elders, but it's always good! :)
Even Sister Evans played sport!

WELL......I don't really have anything else to say this week. The church is true, the book is blue, and thus it is, Amen.

Love you all! Miss you all! Praying for you all!

Always!

Book of Mormon changes Lives!!!

"Hello....is it me you're looking for?"                                                                     March, 17, 2014

Well this life just never stops and never slows down does it! Another transfer is coming to a close! Sister Nance is abandoning me once again and leaving me and Stavanger to go to Arendal with Sister Hansen. Sister Thurgood and I will be trying for survive this crazy rainy weather here in Stavanger together!

But that's okay, it happens. I mean I guess when you've been together for 7 out of the 11 months of your mission...right?
I will miss Nance!

This week the Young Women kidnapped all the missionaries and Elder and Sister Haugen and made us a delicious dinner and they wore mustaches and were Italian waiters! :) It was delicious!
The YW and Brother and Sister Haugen....such a fun surprise!

I have to tell you! Erlend has "The Glow". It is awesome! Before he got baptized every time that we would ask him how he was doing he would say "okay." But now when we ask him he says "super!" or "wonderful!" Wonderful is right! He got the preisthood on Sunday too! So we are just so excited for him and it's wonderful watching him grow!

We met with Eirin a couple of times this week as well. She is amazing. We had a prayer in our hearts that we would know if we needed to invite her to receive a preisthood blessing when we went to meet with her. And as we talked with her it was confirmed that, that was exactly what she needed. She started crying when she found out that she could receive one. And the blessing was beautiful. The spirit was so strong. And her faith does not cease to amaze.

As she was getting ready to leave, she asked for a triple combination. We gave her one to begin studying it, and then she said "I'll give you the other book of Mormon back to you so you can give it to someone else."

And before I knew what was going on the words coming out of our mouths were a challenge to her for HER to give away the Book of Mormon to someone who needs it. I know that the Book of Mormon changes lives.
Life Changing Book!

The stress of our apartment is still there, unfortunately. Tonight is the showing so we had to be out of our apartment early this morning so that our Landlord can come and do who knows what to get it ready. That was rough this morning! Especially with the fiasco that it has been trying to get rid of our old wardrobe. But it's all taken care of, FINALLY.

The poor elders in our district, they have only seen me stressing out to the max. And Elder Taylor yesterday asked me "are you breathing now? Now that you don't have to worry about the baptism?" I just looked at him and said, "No...because the list goes on and on." But you know what that's okay. It's always good to have something going on, keeping you busy. I just need to manage my stress more.

Also I am so soppingly soggy everyday (except for one beautifully sunny day that we studied outside in a park on the swings!) that I think I am going to have to finally just cave and buy some rain boots. Especially because it's going to rain all week long!

I got a institute student manual for the Book of Mormon at the end of last week, and I have been studying with it in the mornings! Can I just say I love Mormons Bok? I love how on every single page it talks of Christ, and testifies of Him and His divine mission here on Earth. I love the eternal truths and principles that we learn in it. I love that it JUST MAKES SENSE.

In Jacob I was reading and it says, "Oh be wise, what can I say more?" When I read that I just thought to myself, "Straight up! Jacob! You know what you're talking about! How did you get so smart?!"

There are so many precious truths to be gleaned from it's pages. I know that as we really FEAST upon the words of God, that we will be uplifted. It is not just spiritually that we are uplifted, fed, and benefited! But temporally! If we will just learn to apply the wonderful teachings that are in every verse, we will be so much happier. We will see more success in life. We will have more strength in times of trial. We will have more comfort in times of sorrow.

I know that the Book of Mormon is true. It is the word of God. It brings light, life, and understanding. Especially when coupled with the Bible. I wish that I had taken more time earlier in my life to really study it. To love it. But it's never too late to start.

I love you all! I miss you all! I pray for you all daily!

Always!

Whew, what an incredible week!!!

Hei :)                                                                                                           March 10, 2013

Wow! You remember how I said last time that I had just endured the LONGEST week of my life? Well this one was definitely the most STRESSFUL week of my life!

But that's okay. It begins in a land, far up in the North, where many people believe there to only be ice caps and polar bears. They are right about these things existing here, but they certainly do not cover the whole country. Anyways, back to the story.

There were two sister missionaries in this land, living in a cute little apartment. When all of the sudden their apartment building is going to be sold! Then their landlord comes in and takes over for a little while (3 days to be exact). He was working vigorously, paining, re-finishing, washing, and moving things around in their apartment. Now these two sisters had some furniture in their apartment that was really old and kind of falling apart, so in trying to do their best and help the poor man, they got permission to go and buy some replacements.

They went to a magical store called IKEA. At this store they purchased such things as a new wardrobe and a new bookcase. The bookcase was at the store and they were able to take it right then, but the wardrobe was in a warehouse.

So the one sister, Sister Roe, carried the 5 foot long, 5 inch wide, 65 pound book case, while Sister Nance carried two GIANT bags full of other supplies as well as both of their purses. The bus driver looked at them weird, and the little old ladies laughed at them...but they got it home and put together without a problem.

Then it was almost 9 pm. They had gotten the wardrobe and were frantically trying to put it together. The appraiser was coming first thing the next morning. They went to bed just after 10:30, with it almost half way put together, promising themselves that it would be completed before the man came in the morning. Well it wasn't. They wanted to cry as they continued to work, and the nice man even helped them stand it up!

Then, the sister training leaders came for a visit. These two sisters had jam packed their plans with several appointments, so that they barely had time to do anything else. They were able to get a lot done, thanks to the extra hands that day! Blessing!
Playing in the HOBBIT holes on PDAY

While on splits, Sister Roe was teaching Erlend. And in the middle of the teach was prompted VERY strongly to challenge Erlend to share his testimony at the end of the baptismal program. She did that, and didn't look back. The Elders, when they heard about it, and about one of the people that were giving a talk, tried to get the poor stressed out sisters to change the program. But they had felt the spirit so strongly about everything on the program that they couldn't.
So great was my JOY to see and work with Sister Peterson again. I LOVE HER!!!

Then it was getting ready for the baptism!

They had to be at the church at 6 in the morning so that they could fill up the font (which they were told took 3 hours) so the sisters were up and walking to the church at 5:25 in the morning! They got there and started the font, which if you don't fill it up extremely slowly it is freezing cold water, and got ready for the day. Then 8:15 rolled around. The water wasn't even filling up the first step!
This is exactly how we felt trying to get the font filled up!!! STRESS!!!

So they turned it on full blast, and ran up the the kitchen and started boiling several very large pots of water, praying that the font wouldn't be too cold.                     Thankfully two of the elders volunteered to help out. And the sisters were able to sit down in time for the program to begin!

The program was beautiful. The spirit was so strong. Everything went to smoothly. The person that so many had pushed the sisters to change, and to have a back up plan for, came through. And not only came through but gave the most eloquent, beautiful, spiritual, and personal talk the sisters had heard. They knew that they did the right thing, letting the spirit guide in planning the program.

Then Erlend got up to share his testimony. The spirit, which was already strong, was increased upon. Many were reduced to tears at this simple, yet powerful and completely honest testimony.

They received an even stronger testimony then, that THE LORD KNOWS BEST.

I am so thankful for this past week, for the stresses, and the crazy moments. I am thankful for the opportunity that I had to witness Erlend's baptism and feel of the incredibly strong spirit that was there. I know this work is true. I know God speaks to us today. I love this gospel, I love this mission, I love these people.

I love you all, I miss you all, I pray for you all!
WHAT A FEELING!!! WHAT A STELLAR BOY!!!

P.S. I almost forgot this most important detail that would just plain sum up our week!

The night the sister training leaders left, after MMK. We were finally heading home, and after not sleeping for several days  we were exhausted. There were a billion people on the bus and Nance sat in the back of the bus, facing the back, while I was standing by the door.

We got to our stop and I made my way through the crowd of people and out of the bus. Nance was taking a while and I figured that it was just because there were so many people. Then the doors closed and the bus started to pull away...Nance looked like a deer caught in the headlights as she saw me standing on the sidewalk!

I just laughed! It was super funny then I called her and the first thing she said was, "I SPACED!" I laughed so hard and she ended up on the other side of the HUGE bridge. So we started on opposite ends of the bridge walking towards each other. It was a funny but kinda scary moment. At least the wind wasn't blowing TOO hard. :)

LONGEST WEEK OF MY MISSION...WHERE IS PORTER GOING TO SERVE HIS MISSION???

God Morgen!                                                                                               March 3, 2013

Well let's start at the beginning shall we? :)

Monday: After Pday we were trying to hunt down some addresses of less active members. Well what luck did we have but that it was POURING rain. It was like one giant never ending sheet of water that for some reason was constantly falling on your face, no matter which direction you turned! It was nuts! And I had my hood on...at first. The rain and wind blew it off. So by the time that I, nearly, crawled onto the bus, my hair was plastered to my face and I was very thankful for the water proof make up. Then when we finally found the house (the buses having changed routes and us not realizing it until it was too late, so instead of the stop being right in front of the house we were going to, it was a 20 minute walk away) the man opened the door just to tell us that the person we were looking for wasn't living there anymore. So that was an adventure.
The cute card a girl in our ward made us!!!

Tuesday: I began to get really excited because I knew that Porter would be getting his mission call that week. To try to burn some energy, and because the weather was beautiful, temperatures around 55, and the sun  was shining gloriously, we decided to do some studies while washing our windows! What a pleasant adventure, right? Well it was at first.

I was washing in a nook and I saw a spider. I assumed it was dead, after squealing. (I really really don't like spiders) Nance saw it and said volunteered to clean right there. Problem? IT WAS ALIVE! And it was HUGE!!! I freaked out! And it was bad enough that so did she! After about 15 minutes of me hyperventilating in the corner it was finally killed by the ever triumphant Nance.

That day we also had an adventure of visiting 3 less actives! I love working with less actives, can I just tell you that? I think that they are amazing! It's fun to watch the fire start burning again!

Poptarts from America!!!

A member brought us Amerian Tator Tots!!!!

Plus, less actives are the biggest blessings during a ferie. Because they mean that even though no one is out, they are still available, more often than not, and you can still do productive things! It was a giant blessing during a very dead week. Especially with Erlend on vacation.

Then the rest of the week was a blur of mundane, that I don't really recall. It was pretty much the LONGEST week of my mission just WAITING to find out where PORTER is going on his mission! Can you imagine my shock and joy to read this morning that he is going to the TAIWAN TAIPEI MISSION, MANDARIN SPEAKING?! Oh my heavens!! What a great moment! He will be a wonderful missionary! I am so excited for him!!!

Oh I almost forgot!!

Sunday: We had a teach on Friday with Eirin and she was able to work it out that she could come to church on Sunday! We were so excited! Because Sunday meant, 1) Erlend is back, and coming to church, and 2) Eirin was coming to church.

What a HUGE blessing it was! (Even though Sundays are by far the most stressful day in a missionaries life...say goodbye to relaxing Sundays, Porter.) The ward was amazing with coming and greeting our wonderful investigators and reaching out to them! Erlends baptism is set for this coming Sunday, and as Eirin left the chapel she asked Nance "how do I become a member of this church?" And now we are meeting with her today, and Thursday! I am telling you when people are prepared, they are prepared! I love it!
Notice the muffin flying in the air! hahaha

Life is good! I am so happy to be a missionary here in Norway! I love you all! I miss you all! I'm praying for you all!

Always!

PS Also one of the members works at NATO and brought us American greir...some of the stuff I've missed the most.
